Unable to sync to dropbox with iPhone

Post by mka »

Hi Nick. Since a few days, the sync with the dropbox doesn't works anymore on the iphone. The progress stays always at 1%. Also deactivating the cloud and restart doesn't help. Also remove the dropbox permissions doesn't works. Is there a general bug or problem with the iOS? Looks like the mac is synching properly.

IOS: 18.5 / Macdive: 1.4.13 / Dropbox 426.2

Sadly, it seems that Nick and anyone else has folded on MacDive support, maybe due to other life events/priorities. Sadly, they won’t say anything publicly and as far as I know are still ‘selling’ the app. Dropbox has had issues for quiet awhile that many of us have asked please get some developer time ….

It had honestly been the best dive log application and support forum for Apple based users until a couple years ago…. I keep hoping Nick is quietly developing a whole new version that he’s going to spring on us but . . . I think that’s just the island Rum talking. :(

I submitted a support request to Nick on 12-May-2025 and is still unanswered. Not just a post in the forum, mind you -- via email. It seems to me even a "not sure why that's happening but to be honest it doesn't sound that intrusive so just keep me posted" response is better than no response.

I think we don't have enough information to judge this accurately yet, but we do have some borders to our concerns/observations. Since Nick has responded to a post here or there in the last year or so, he's probably not dead, incarcerated, hospitalized long-term, otherwise incapacitated, or blocked by electricity/technology/internet access. Maybe life events... but one would think a "hey I'm still here and I'll be back more later" post would be in order since others are possible. I also reached out to the other two admins back in April-ish? That went unanswered too. I don't have any particular reason to, but I assume this is because they don't know what's going on with Nick.

For all of us concerned about the future of the apps, here is what I am telling new people I talk with: It's a fantastic app for desktop, iPad, and iPhone. [Cite best features, including] The compatibility is unparalleled in the market, so far as I know. I have no big complaints and a handful of suggestions/requests. But apparently it's not being developed anymore. [Cite problems with admin absences.] So if you wanna use it, do that, and do so knowing at some point MacOS/iOS/iPadOS will be developed such that they are incompatible with the current version. When that happens, know that MacDive can export a UDDF file that is compatible with some other dive logging programs, but they won't be as good as MacDive. It's going to be kind of like Facebook vs. MySpace, way back when, except Facebook dies. Additionally, as others have pointed out, Apple doesn't let you abandon apps in its store. So Apple would most likely intervene as well, although it's unclear when that would happen in relation to other events.

So any way about it, we are looking at the sunset of some great software... unless of course someone in the know chimes in with what's going on or what's going to happen.
