Will MacDive has a future?

Post by federicoserra »

Morning everyone.
I'm really worried about MacDive: in the italian Appstore the app disappeared; no answer at all about support or updates in the forum.
This logbook has a lot of great features but should need some improvements and also support for dive computer updates and desktop/phone updates.
But the thing I'm most worried about is that no one is answering me or anyone else: is the app abandoned?

I think MacDive is one of the greatest digital logbook on the market, which is why I chose it despites all of the competitors. I bought my new computer checking the MacDive compatibility but the world run so fast.

All I'm asking for are some informations: will MacDive has a future?

As customers I suppose we deserve this answer

Thanks a lot!

Indeed...

I hope the admin is doing fine in health terms, and the abandon of the app is not due to any health related issue.

However, without updates, the app is still good.
BUT, taking it out from the app store is a no-no for us

As per the info at: memberlist.php?mode=team
The admin is "nick"
The moderators are "duy" and "TnT"

I've tried sending a PM to nick: It has disable the PM reception.
I've sent a PM to duy and TnT, asking about this and linking this post.

I suggest we all do the same.

Apple developer program official documentation

To publish an app on the Apple App Store, a developer must register for the Apple Developer Program, which costs $99 per year. This entails a few conditions:

1. The subscription must be renewed annually.
If the developer does not renew their subscription, apps published in the App Store will be deleted until they pay the next subscription.

2. If the subscription expires:
• The app is removed from the App Store.
• Users who have already downloaded it can continue to use it, but will not receive updates.
If the developer renews later, they will have to resubmit the app.

3. Apple may remove apps for other reasons, even if the subscription is active. For example:
• If the app does not comply with App Store standards.
If it has not been updated for a long time and Apple considers it "abandoned."
• If it has compatibility issues with new versions of iOS.

Sadly, for many of us who have used and supported the app for years, it does seem that it has been abandoned. This is really unfortunate and I do wish Nick had been able to either find another developer to take it over, make it public domain so maybe someone will step up, or at least provide those of us here for years with 1000s of logged dives with some closure….

Did anyone get a reply to see if the software was continuing to be supported? Juat purchased the iOS version of Apple UK store with no problems but decided to read the forum before purchsing the desktop version and saw this post so pausing before downloading any dives to it if jumping to an alternative product if MacDive as no future

No replies whatsoever

Admin Nick replied on another thread after several posts on this one.
So, he could read this thread, but haven't said anything.

I also PM'ed another forum admin (TnT) and he kindly told me he will try to reach Nick.
No reply on that line either.

Very disrespectful i think.

I won't purchase anything.
Also, if you google "macdive forums", the second result is Where is Nick?.
That should tell us something :(

I don't like the way it's going.
I'm not only talking about the probable end of support. As written before AS CUSTOMER WE DESERVE AN ANSWER.

I invested a lot of time in the app because I appreciated it but, if I have to live in doubt that from one day to the next it will stop working, what is the point of all this?

Very disappointed.
