Suunto D9 Problem

It's there, that's fine - I gave you a slightly wrong command though. Use this one:

ls -al /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

And then:

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/

And paste all the output.

OK. Learned something. I have to re-run the "system report" to see the USB Profiles. But when the cable is plugged in I can see it. Still showing up under serial # ST01CCN2, no matter which of the two USB ports on this laptop I utilize.

I ran the strings you asked in terminal, here is its transcript.

This may be the D4i/D6i/D9tx cable that is not compatible. Here's the comment from Leisurepro, can you look at this and confirm if your cable matches this:

... Turns out the only way to know if this is the correct wire is the inside of the wire connector where the two prongs are located must be red - not the red dot on the outside of the connector. Do not buy this cable if you have an i series.

Alternatively, if you have and that's the only serial port, are you sure that the cable is not from a D4i/D6i/D9tx ? The cables are incompatible between the newer and older D-series models.

The D9 is fairly new to me, as I bought it used from a co-worker. He lost the cable that came with it, so I bought a new one from Leisure Pro, (only one I could find on-line). It was advertised as the one for the D9, but to be honest I have no idea how to tell...

Hmmmmm....

Red Dot + Red Inside = Right Cable for D9?

Or

Red Dot = i & tx Series?

Given the serial port is l'd say it is the I series. I can compare to mine after work. My understanding of the note from Leisurepro is that the red inside means it's for the i series. The red dot should be there on both, it's certainly there on mine.

The best thing to do is probably try the official Suunto software and see if it works there?

Don't worry about whether you ordered the right one, it looks like you did, it's just that there has been some confusion over these cables. It's not really clear which is which and I think a lot of shops get them mixed up.
