No serial port

Post by neonistic »

I have no serial port available. I have installed the latest version of both MacDive and drivers. It will not recognize any serial port. I have used MacDive successfully in the past. My last uploaded dives were in April 2010. I have tried with both my Suunto Cobra 2 and Mosquito.

Please help!

If you have no serial port, then it means you didn't actually install the driver, or it was the wrong one.

Make sure once you download it, you open it and follow the on-screen instructions to install. What driver did you actually download?

I have tried with the FTDI x86 (32-bit), x64 (64-bit) and PPC. None of them work. I went through the whole instillation process as I did before and it gave me an instillation successful message.

I have OSX 10.8.3 with an Intel i5 processor.

Well x86, x64 and PPC all link to the exact same file.

What kind of cable do you have? An official Suunto cable, or a different kind?

Do you have access to Windows to verify that the cable works and is not faulty? Have you read Troubleshooting Downloads in the help and ruled out other issues, for example low battery, USB hubs, etc.

It shows that the port is there but it doesn't show in Mac-Dive.

That info doesn't mean the driver is installed, it just knows what is plugged in. The driver is required to tell your computer how to talk to it.

What happens when you click "Scan" in Preferences -> Advanced ? What is in the drop down box?

I do not have access to a windows computer. The batteries are full on both computers, no usb hubs, etc. I have an official USB cable. Nothing comes up when I scan for ports. The box says No Serial Port Found.

This might be easier over email, but for now, can you open a Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal), and when it pops up, cut and paste this into it:

ls -al /System/Library/Extensions/ | grep FTDI

And then hit enter. (Cut ant paste it as the command needs to be exact). Can you then copy and paste what the output is?
