Import missing parameters (csv to SDE)

Post by carl smith »

I used to log my dives in a spreadsheet, and now want to import them into mac dive. I have seen mamax's very useful perl script to convert csv to SDE format, and will go that route.
I noticed that there are a number of fields in macdive that are not covered in his script, and incidentally also don't get exported from macdive: rating, certification, tags, divetype, entry type, current, surface conditions, dive operator, boat captain, photos (path to the photos I presume ?!), gear selection, decompression dive yes/no, double tanks yes/no, Gas - Air or EAN0 , Air start, Air end (may not be a complete list).
Is there a way to import these parameters as well? I tried to guess the keywords (e.g. <CURRENT> , etc), but no luck.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Unfortunately no, sorry - SDE doesn't support them.

A lot of those do get exported, but not imported. Someone else was just asking a question about importing data, and I think the best route to go is to (finally) update MacDive to be able to read its own XML format that it can export. I never added import for it - actually it was only intended as a way to get data out.

But I can ensure that it covers all of those extra fields. Potentially you could look at replicating his script but for a different XML format, if you are comfortable with that kind of thing.

It needs to be updated anyway as a lot has changed since I last looked at it - tank management for one, and lots of new fields. So if that sounds reasonable, it's actually on my list to do shortly. I could send you an example file once I've got it reading/writing if that would help. You can check the various things you need are all there.

Yes, that sounds perfectly reasonable. And I agree regarding an xml format tailored to macdive.
