I am unable to transfer data successfully from my Oceanic VT4 to my MBP running Lion 10.7.1
I installed the 64-bit VCP driver and connected my VT4 over USB. I also went t=into the prefrences and selected /dev/tty.usbserial-20030001 for the serial port.
As I attempt to download dives I get an error promt with message "Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.usbserial-20030001' (Error Code: -5)" OR "Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.usbserial-20030001' (Error Code: -6)" depending on my cable jiggling.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Re: Unable to transfer data
Are you sure the cable is not upside down? I have a Vt4 here and it doesn't work when I plug the cable in the wrong way, which is surprisingly easy to do.
Other than that, sounds like you've done everything correctly - give it a few tries. You could try downloading on windows via Oceanlog to verify the cable is not faulty.

Re: Unable to transfer data
I did try plugging the cable in upside down and it does fit into the computer but I get error code 5 when doing so. Also, based upon the physical look of the cable I am positive I am plugging it in right side up.
When I connect the computer the screen on the VT4 reads "PC Connection" and starts counting down from 120 seconds which tells me the connection is being made, however, I still get Error code 6 when attempting to download files into MacDive.
Is there any log or diagnostic data that I could provide?

Re: Unable to transfer data
You can run a commandline test (see the stickied topic "how to report dive computer problems", using the atom2 test).
Essentially it is the same code that is running so unless it's just a bad connection, you will get same result. But it may be worth trying. The most likely problem is that the cable isn't quite connected properly. Even though they look like they are, sometimes it's just not quite right. The VT4 I have sometimes just fails - I just try reimporting a couple of times and eventually it all works.

Re: Unable to transfer data
Right you are! I just kept trying to import and wiggling the cable a bit and after a few tries my dive data did download. Thanks for your help.
Wish that cable connection were a bit more reliable. Oh well.
Thanks again.

Re: Unable to transfer data
Ya - it can be a pain sometimes to get them working, unfortunately.
Glad you got it sorted though!

Re: Unable to transfer data
What driver did you install? Do you have low battery? What serial port are you connecting to?
I have a VT4 and it works no problem. See above, but the most common problem is a bad connection or low battery, or not having the driver installed (though it sounds like you have that ok if you get -5 or -6).
