problems with suunto d4i driver

Hi there, I downloaded the drivers for my suunto d4i here (following advice from this forum):
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
I am using a macbook pro with intel core 2 duo processor so I downloaded the 64-bit driver. Still, I keep on getting the message "Could not detect a valid serial port".

My USB cable is the official by suunto. Can you help?

What do you see in Preferences -> Advanced in the drop down box when you click "Scan For Serial Port", when the device is plugged in and in transfer mode?

And this may be a stupid question, but did you install the driver after you downloaded it?

There are no stupid questions :-) yes. I downloaded and installed it. My d4i is plugged and displaying "data transfer" on the screen. I clicked on scan and it only says "no serial ports found"

This means that either the cable is faulty, or the driver is not installed.

In fact you don't even need the D4i plugged in to see the serial port - it's actually a chip inside the cable that you will see appear in the "scan for serial port" box.

Could you do me a favour and open a terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal) and paste this into it, and then copy and paste the output (make sure the cable at least is plugged in):

ls /dev/tty.*

I just did (with only the cable plugged in). I get this:

/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem /dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync

I scanned again and didn't find it

Ok. Then if you have the cable plugged in when you ran that command, either the driver is not installed or there is a problem with the cable itself.

Maybe try reinstalling the FTDI driver.

I reinstalled the FTDI driver (which I had already done) and it works now. Thank you for the support!!

Just to note, it took 4 attempts of installing the driver and restarting my new MacBook Air before the 4Di was recognized and worked. Been working fine now for several weeks. Thanks for the previous reply to try installing several times.

Thanks,

Terry

Hello, I'm having the same problem.

Already installed a dozen times without success.

I already opened the Terminal and put the code
I get this: /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem: Permission denied
