I would like to see an easy backup function added to MacFive so we can easily create a backup of the database from within the program.

I'd like to see something like a button to backup to DropBox, a one touch backup..

Just back up your MacDive directory.

I'll try and look at putting something "proper" in, but for now, just copy the file, or use Time Machine and forget about it.

I use time machine but in the other programs with important data I still use the manual backup feature from time to time so I can store for example a monthly backup independently of what time machine does automatically and I would appreciate a "proper" solution within the program, thanks.

Any news on a backup feature? I use Time Machine but that is no great solution if for example the database gets corrupted. As I do with Lightroom I would like to have the possibility to easily do an extra database backup from within the software so I have an extra layer of protection.

If the database got corrupted, you could restore an older Time Machine backup. I'm not really following how some other solution would help you better than Time Machine?

There's also the ability to just back up the data manually. Are you unable to do that for some reason? If you go to Preferences -> General, there is a button to open the data folder in your Finder. You can copy all of the data including images, or just your database, and back it up however you like. You could even create an automator action to copy this folder if you wanted to, and run it whenever you liked.

I want to be able to generate backups of the database regularly as an extra layer of security, just like I do in my other database based softwares. An easy way to do that in the software is all I am asking for, "Backup database" and the choose backup location, done.

Right, I understand that, but I'm curious. What does that achieve that Time Machine doesn't?

Backing up each individual application separately seems like a lot of effort!

edit: or if you really want to, can you not just make an automator action to do this for you? If you just want to copy it somewhere, it should be pretty easy to set up. Then you can schedule it or just manually run it, and you get exactly the functionality you're looking for. You could even extend that to multiple applications rather than manually using each ones individual backup method.

Here's an example. You can see that you can specify other files to copy (e.g. the images, or something from another app). You can save this and run it any time.
I can look at adding a button for you, but maybe this will do what you want in the meantime.
