No import from OSTC2 on Monterey via BT

Post by Boris »

As the subject says, I can't import dives from my OSTC2 via Bluetooth on my iMac (Retina 5K, 27 Zoll, 2019) right now:
MacDive encountered a problem downloading from your HeinrichsWeikamp OSTC 2:
Failed to read dive computer memory (Error Code: -7)
But I did one month ago! What has changed?
1. I did upgrade OSTC's firmware from 10.71 to 10.72 (via OSTCConf, no problem here)
2. I did upgrade iMac to OSX 12 (was OSX 11)

So, is there a known issue?

I've never tried to connect with MacDive on iOS, but when I try now, I can't connect to the OSTC either.

Need more info?
Thanks,
Boris

Currently there are issues with Bluetooth on Monterey, particularly around devices that require a PIN to pair. At this point I am waiting on Apple to issue a fix.

Thanks Nick. Somehow I haven't seen your reply.

I just want to share a little update. I guess I tried macOS version 12.2, but I'm not sure.
The current version I'm using is macOS 12.2.1 and I was able to import form OSTC to MacDive:

1. in SystemPreference I removed the OSTC from the BlueTooth tab
2. I enabled BlueTooth on the OSTC, saw it in the Mac and connected. It was disconnected immediately.
3. I started MacDive, connected again and started the import. MacDive imported the new dive (there was only one)

When I try to import again (no new dive) I get the error message again.

When I go through the steps from above, the connection is rejected by the OSTC sometimes; sometimes I can connect and activate the import from the OSTC. But it is very unstable.

It seems to be crucial to remove the OSTC from macOS BlueTooth menu.

Hope this helps someone else.

I'm getting error -7 too when trying to download from Shearwater Petrel. I've tried on two different Intel macbooks with macOS Monterey 12.2.1 and 12.3.

I am unable to download my dives on my Mac running Monterey 12.6.8 from my HW OSTC 2.

Has there been a solution to fix previous similar problems on this topic?

There is a solution, which worked for me:
- You should see your OSTC as „OSTC Serialnumber“ on your Mac‘s Bluetooth Menu, then every should be fine.
- if not then go to the Reset Menu and reset the Bluetooth chip
- If you still can‘t see your OSTC in the given format from above then reset the Bluetooth chip the hard way: https://heinrichsweikamp.com/service/faq#panel6b „I can get no Bluetooth connection“ at the very end; restart OSTC and press buttons.
