Is there a dive site database in the cloud?

Post by dynalmadman »

Just wondered. It would be pretty cool if we could lookup a dive site from an online database and have it imported into the new dive we are adding.

There are a couple of options. There's one crowd I spoke to a while back that we were considering integrating. They seemed to have a nice way to access the data and a decent amount of sites listed.

I got a little distracted trying to get the iPhone version ready, so I put it on the back burner.

Hello. Is there any news on this? I would very much like this as well.

Or would it be able to upload sites to a server and exchange them that way?

This'll be a great addition to MacDive, so we can all share our dive sites and import somebody else's rather than typing ech one, geolocating them, etc ...

There is one — semi easy — way of exporting from MacDive to an online Divelog.

First export from Macdive to Subsurface (https://subsurface-divelog.org/)
Macdive xml-export -> Subsurface import logfile (cmd+i)

This neatly imports alost all data from Macdive.

Then export from Subsurface to Divelogs.de (https://en.divelogs.de/)
You would need a free account on divelogs.de first.

Divelogs.de has a huge amount of users in Europe.

Is there any chance we could have this export to Divelogs.de-feature inside Macdive?

I thought that dive-logs read MacDive XML files directly. I'm pretty sure it did last time I checked. But this would be best in a new thread, being that it's unrelated to an online dive site directory (for autocompletion in the app itself).

Yes, it uploads, but this was to show a sync from an app is possible.

To me the great addition would be to:
  • Load a dive from Dive Computer
  • Select dive and choose "Select from Website: divelogs.de"
  • Choose manually which one you want
  • Download all data from that particular divesite
That way I avoid to enter all details for a new dive like its country, city, location, GPS coordinates, etc.

Was this ever implemented? Any suggestions on how to quickly import multiple dive sites? I've spent 20-30 minutes reading over the forums here and haven't found anything.

A while back I added the ability to import KML files containing dive sites. Depending on your source, you may be able to export one of those then drag/drop to import.
