Delete does not work

This issue was addressed in a topic in this forum back in 2008. In Sites, I have a "new country" and I can't delete it. The solution is supposed to be to select the item and use the menu to Edit-->Delete or use Option+Delete. Doesn't work. I tried deleting the site first and that didn't work. In fact with the menu option, I get no feedback, nothing happens. With Option+Delete I get a beep, but the item doesn't delete. Does anyone else have this issue? Did you resolve it?
