Cannor identify dive computer

Post by hvdhoef »

Hi!

i'm trying to connect my vyper to my MB pro with 10.5.8 on it. Selecting the correct USB port works fine (after installing the right driver). The problem appears when I try to import the data from teh suunto to the mac.

The error I get is "Cannor identify dive computer" ...

Any suggestions?

thnxs!

So in Preferences -> Advanced, what shows up ?

What driver did you install - the FTDI 2.2.14 one ?

And, just to check, is the vyper in pc transfer mode?

I just updated to that version of the driver, and it looks like it changes the name of the serial port, just FYI.

Really?

From what, to what ?

From memory (I'm at work at the mo) the original one was /dev/tty.usbserial-ST000001 or some such.

Sometimes macdive can figure that out, but if you have other devices like a nokia it can get confused. Actually I should really try and make that a bit smarter/more robust in v2 :)

Yup... That's what the previous version had.. When I upgraded and plugged in the Geo, I got /dev/tty.usbserial-20030001

I haven't tested everything to find out whether that's an Oceanic only change, or whether the Suunto behaves the same.

I expect to find out within a day or so... ;-)

Ah ok. Yeah, the oceanics were always different to suunto, as they're different chip ID's. The driver has a property list file and you can specify in that what the device should show up as.

@nick @egon Quick responses, thnxs!

Heres an overview:
- first I installed the lastest diver (2.2.14) and MacDive
- selected the correct port (/dev/tty.usbserial-ST000001) the only visible one btw
- connected the Vyper through the USB cable
- put the Vyper in PC mode (tr-pc)
- and try to import the data

... and then I started to cry ;-)

Tried restarting the Mac and the Vyper, re-installing the drivers and MacDive but nothing helped.

Any suggestions were I went wrong or what I've missed?

That all sounds good.

Vyper1 or 2? And, this may be a silly question, but which menu option are you choosing vyper or vyper2 (as they're very different) ?

Are you using a USB hub ?

And just to confirm, it's the official suunto cable?

It's the Vyper 1:

Actually tried both, but didn't work. It's has a Suunto logo on the back and came with an original Suunto CD so I look genuine.

It look like this one only I have the USB version:

Do you have windows ?

I'm wondering if you've tried the cable in Windows (Parallels etc) and it's worked, to rule out whether or not its faulty.
