Lost Connectivity to Suunto computers

Post by timallen »

I have a MacBook Pro running Yosemite OS X 10.10.2 and MacDive 2.3.6 I haven't dived in a few months but after a weekend trip tried to download dives from a Suunto Vyper Air and Suunto Zoop, and got the following error message:

"Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.UEBOOM-LWACP' (Error Code: -6)"

I have connected to the computers with an official Suunto USB cable and an after market version with the same result. I have downloaded FTDI driver 2.2.18 and installed (and restarted the Mac) - still the same issue.

Interestingly the Suunto DM5 software works fine, and synchronised with the Vyper Air - but I would rather use MacDive having just bought the licence!

What am I missing? Help, please!

Hi,

I believe you just emailed me at the same time, and I replied to you there.

Thanks.

If it's the same issue, then the problem was that his Logitech UE BOOM was being picked up, and the solution is to go to Preferences -> Advanced and choose the correct serial port. I'm going to assume that's not the issue you have, so I would really need the exact details to help you.

Read Troubleshooting Downloads in the help, which covers the typical problems. If you don't have any luck there, then email support with the information requested - type of dive computer, what USB driver you installed, what cable you have, and the exact error message.

Often "it used to work" means you have a low battery, or you moved computers and need to reinstall the USB driver. But I'm just guessing now.

Thanks.

Everything was the same except the issue was caused by a Jabra Bluetooth Headset. I have removed the USB connection to it and disabled the Bluetooth connection too. Now the error message is "Could not detect a valid serial port". In preferences, no serial port is found, and refresh button does nothing. I have no idea what to to enter in Serial Port Overide (this is where my computer knowledge runs dry). There has been no change to hardware and the Vyper has three day old batteries. I've tried disconnecting the USB bus and rebooting my iMac to no avail.

Any ideas?

You don't need to enter anything manually - if it's not there, it's not there. Typically that means the USB driver has not been installed (or the cable is not plugged in). You don't mention what kind of cable you have, if it's the official Suunto cable then this is the direct link:

http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP/Mac ... 2_2_18.dmg

If not, visit the devices page (http://www.mac-dive.com/devices.php) and get the appropriate one.

Usually this is because you've moved computers, and sometimes upgrading from old versions of OS X can wipe it.

Weirdly I ran in to basically the same issue last night. Driver was borked, presumably after the 10.10.2 upgrade. Reinstalling, the logs indicate that it had allowed it to load correctly.

I have some tickets in with both Apple and FTDI about this. Chances are nothing will come of it, but I thought I'd try!

I am having the same issues with my new iMac with Yosemite. PL2303 driver is installed. Set for Suunto stinger. Port is detected in preferences. Then >>> -7 error. The log states the following:

Next steps?

Interestingly, the same cable works on my MacBook Pro with Yosemite

I'm having problems with zoop and El Capitan now.
I've already tried the latest ftdi vcp driver, but it didn't work.

Was anybody able to make it work ?

My versions are:
OSX: 10.11.2
MacDive: 2.5.2
FTDI 2.3

Thanks,

Claudio
