Okay, with the proper driver installed (and the wrong one uninstalled) it now recognizes the cable. I went to preferences and selected the only option it gave me after a scan. Hmm, that may be it. I installed the Intel driver rather than the Snow Leopard driver.

No USB hub, plugged directly into the USB port on the computer. I tried both. I even tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it. And yes, the cable is plugged in.

When I hit SCAN it said no serial ports detected. And yes, I did install the USB driver.
