Can't locate port!

Post by kdmartine »

When I try to load data from my Suunto Cobra 3 to Macdive, I get the following error: Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.usbserial-20030001' (Error Code: -4).

Typically that is the serial port for Oceanic devices, not Suunto. Did you type that in manually?

If so, it's wrong. You need to read the Troubleshooting Downloads guide in help, but I would start by making sure you installed the correct driver (which depends on what cable you have), and then you will need to remove that port and either it will find it automatically, or scan for the correct one.

I have an oceanic OC1 and it won't find the ports with either manual or scan..is there anything I can do other than taking my Macbook in?

Did you read "Troubleshooting Downloads" in the help?

Most likely you didn't install the appropriate USB driver, linked off the devices page (http://www.mac-dive.com/devices.php).

Yes, have the correct USB drivers and tried all the suggestions on the downloads page. Will have to take my Mac in as now my OC1 crashes my windows Parallels as soon as I try to download any info off of the watch. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Oceanlog and MacDive. Must be something with the Mac computer itself. Thanks for your suggestion and I will post the problem if found.

You can follow the instructions here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=407

For reporting download problems (using the atom2 test), but if the device will not download in Oceanlog then it will likely also have problems in MacDive.

Turns out it is a cable issue. I looked and there is a missing O ring on the cable at the watch end. I'm guessing that this is preventing proper connection due to being too loose when hooked up. Replaced cable and all dives re downloaded. Thanks for your help.

Hoping to get some guidance with my Aeris XR-2.

When I try to download I get the following error:

Failed connecting to dive computer on serial port '/dev/tty.usbserial-20030001' (Error Code: -5)

I've installed the correct driver. FTDIUSB 2.2.17,

/dev shows the device is installed:

crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 11, 11 May 6 10:38 cu.usbserial-20030001
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 11, 10 May 6 10:41 tty.usbserial-20030001

and system profile shows the driver when the XR-2 is set to download mode:

2002 Design,Inc. USB:

Product ID: 0xf460
Vendor ID: 0x0403 (Future Technology Devices International Limited)
Version: 4.00
Serial Number: 20030001
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: 2002 Design,Inc
Location ID: 0x1a200000 / 3
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 44

ls /dev/tty.* yields:

/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem /dev/tty.usbserial-20030001
/dev/tty.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync

I ran ./veo250 /dev/tty.usbserial-20030001 and generated a VEO250.log . Looks like there was an I/O error dumping memory so no VEO250.dmp file I've emailed the log file.

Oh, and I'm able to download from the XR-2 using Aeris' software as well as divinglog 5.0 in a VMware vm so it doesn't look like there is a problem with my XR-2 or cable.

Many thanks for your help.
