I use MacDive for about a year and really like the software.
However, what I don't understand is the purpose of the certification field.
Which of the following information do I enter here?

Current certification level of the diver when he performs the dive.

The certification, the diver strives for when performing the dive. In this case the field is only filled for training dives.
Can you enlighten me?

I use it to track how dives I performed with a certain certification. Some advancement needs you to have a certain number of dives done with the previous certification.

For example : to start the rEvo normoxic training you need 25 hours and at least 20 dives (not sure about the exact numbers but you get the idea) with your rEvo using Air Diluent.

You can use it however you like, you don't have to use it for a specific purpose. Some instructors use it to track what they were teaching on that dive, for example.

I use it to indicate the certification that I am training for, e.g. TEc 50, SDI Solo Diver etc.

For non-training dives, I input in the field my DAN insurance card (since I have that also in my certifications list).
