This is now done, and will be in the next version. It expects the critters to be in the "Keywords" EXIF tag. It will check either the name or the species, and keywords should ideally be comma separated (this was the common convention I found googling around).

It was an awesome release!

But I'm really eager to test exif and image-replacements! :-)

It's almost ready, so feel free to drop me an email and I can send you a beta. It would be good to get a bit of testing done as it's a pretty drastic rewrite of the feature.
