Cannor identify dive computer

Yes there has been an update. I tried to connect another dive computer, my cobra 2. Then I get the message: cannot contact the dive computer. I never used this one before with mac dive.

So, is the vytec not connecting, or is it just the cobra 2 ? Or both ?

And what did you update? MacDive ? Or something else?

What USB driver(s) do you have installed ?

What kind of cables do you have ? Original suunto ? Or third party ?

It's a commandline application, without the graphical user interface that you are familiar with. So you need to run it from a Terminal window (which should be located under Applications->Utilities). Download the test application and save it somewhere on your harddisk (let's assume you saved it in the folder ~/Downloads). Now in your Terminal window, you change into that directory by typing "cd ~/Downloads" (without the quotes of course) and press enter. To start the test application type "./vyper /dev/tty.usbserial-xxx" and press enter. Of course you need to replace the /dev/tty.usbserial-xxx with the correct portname. You'll probably only have to change the xxx part. If you get errors like permission denied, or something like that, you need to mark the test application as executable, by executing the command "chmod u+x vyper". Does this help?

If you can't get macdive to work before you go on holiday, you can still download the dives when you return. Unless you are planning to do a lot of dives, the profiles will be remain on the device. The internal memory is used in a circular fashion, and only when you do enough dives to fill the entire memory, you start overwriting old dives. With the default sample rate of 20s, you can store about 36hours of profile data. If you need more, you can always choose a longer sample rate (30s or 60s).

I updated mac dive and some ohter software programmes, just the normal mac update. I don't use this laptop at home just for the holiday, so I always start with an update from mac. Yesterday I also updated Macdive, but that is not the problem I think, because I changed it in the last version and I dumped the newest download and I still get the same message. Both dive computers are giving problems but each type is getting another message. The cable I use is from Suunto, and the drivers are FTDI usb2.2.14.

I solved the problem. I re-installed the drivers and Mac Dive and it's working! Only with my Vytec DS and not with the Cobra, but this is no problem for me. I hope is staying this way when I need it. The program doesn't recognize the vytec from my buddy. Strange?

I'm getting this problem too.
Last imported dives about a year ago - since then I've upgraded the hard disk & OS on my MacBook Pro.

I've re-downloaded the com port driver & scanning for ports in MacDive finds it fine.
But when I try to import I get 'Beginning Download' followed shortly by 'Cannot Identify Dive Computer'

I've downloaded the Vyper diagnostic you mentioned & the results are below.
